Choral Speaking Competition

Our society held an annual choral speaking competition during the 28th of April. All the students in the school participated in this massive event. Students were split into six groups from junior 1 to senior 3 and participated according to their English classes.

The event was held in two separate locations which were the ground floor of the JE center for senior 1 and senior 2 classes and the student activity center for junior 1, junior 2 and senior 3 classes. Due to time constraints the competition for junior 3 classes was postponed and the judges went into their classes to judge their choral speaking during regular English lessons the following week.

The judges for this year’s competition were Ms Janet, Mr Paul, Mr Jeffrey, Mr Timothy and Ms Lisa. The titles for each level were as follows:

Junior 1

Leaping from Primary to Secondary

Junior 2

Am I wasting my time?

Junior 3

Exam, Exam, Exam

Senior 1

From Junior to Senior

Senior 2

Am I staying or leaving?

Senior 3

Tertiary education embraces me

This year due to poor schedule and location management, the whole event was very chaotic. We apologize for any inconveniences caused. Though it was a mess on that day we still managed to successfully complete the event. We learned a lot from this experience and we hope next year we can once again hold a choral speaking competition but with improvements from the experience collected this year.

9 April 2011

It’s April and here we marched towards a new month! Today, all of us were separated into 2 different room, and played 2 different activities. The first activity we had is called “Smack the Word”. There is a few words written on random places on the whiteboard, and a small and soft bat on the table. Once the fellowship captain called out the word, a member in each group is required to grab the bat as fast as possible and smack it on the word on the whiteboard. It was really exciting, especially when we see how the losing team catch up with the winning team after felling behind for around 10 points.

The second activity we had is to solve a human puzzle. At the beginning, we were playing in groups, holding random group member’s hand. Then we have to do every possible actions to solve the puzzle. After that, we played the activity altogether. At this time, it seems more difficult to solve it, since it is a huge puzzle and requires teamwork from every member. Luckily we managed to solve it, and played another round of this interesting activity.

Below is some interesting pictures taken during the activity.
